A free course run by Red Ladder’s Artistic Director, Cheryl Martin for those pursuing a career in the industry.

The theme of the workshops is memorable Christmases (don’t worry if you don’t celebrate the festival, your anecdotes don’t need to be true) with sessions covering:

• Starting from real life
• Creating multi-layered characters
• What makes good dialogue
• Different approaches to structure

The most promising new voices will be asked to write short pieces (no more than 10 minutes) for Red Ladder.

These pieces will be directed by graduates of the Red Ladder directing course, and performed by graduates from our acting course in a final showcase.

Writers may then be offered a further development opportunity, receiving mentorship and support to crowd-source stories with communities for Red Ladder’s 2025/26 production.
