ARTISTIC DIRECTOR - Rod Dixon
Rod grew up in the culturally diverse city of Liverpool. He became Director of Red Ladder Theatre Company in 2006. Before this Rod was associate director at the Barbican Theatre in Plymouth and as a freelancer, directed several shows at Plymouth Theatre Royal. Before running The Hub Theatre School in Cornwall, Rod had been an actor with several companies including Kneehigh Theatre. Since working with Red Ladder Rod has directed three national touring shows (‘Kaahini’ by Maya Chowdhry re-tour 2006 & ‘Doors’ by Madani Younis 2007, Forgotten Things by Emma Adams 2008 & 2009), developed The Red Grit Young Actors Training Company and directed the sell-out 40th anniversary show ‘Where’s Vietnam?’ by Leeds writer Alice Nutter. Mindful of the company’s radical history, Rod feels his mission is to put the ‘red’ back in Red Ladder and is developing a winter show with the activist group Chumbawamba which will tour northern venues during Christmas 2009. CO-DIRECTOR/ PUPPET MAKER - John Barber
John is a puppet maker, designer, animator and an actor. He trained at Theatr Minor, Prague, and at the Workshop Theatre, Leeds University, and was an artistic director of Open Hand Theatre Company for 12 years. He now works as part of Barber/Lunt Productions, and his puppet and design commissions for theatre and television have included work for, The West Yorkshire Playhouse, Bolton Octagon, Leeds City Varieties, The Library Theatre Manchester, The Swan Theatre Worcester, Loughborough Theatre, and Yorkshire Television; as well as various touring theatre productions including three years International Touring with Green Ginger. WRITER - Emma Adams
Emma has been a tourist guide, a dinner lady and a musician; she is now a writer. She has made short films (Elipticus and Ripe), which have been shown in festivals in the UK as well as Internationally. She wrote their first play 'For Sale', written specifically for the house it was performed in (April 2007) and a two part radio drama 'The Silver Hammer Gated Community Radio Hour' for Interplay's 'I Love West Leeds' Festival 2007. 'Forgotten Things' is her first play for Red Ladder. She is currently developing a TV Series: ‘Northern Souls’ - a dark comedy/satire - co writing with Caroline Mitchell and is writing another play, ‘Ugly’ for Red Ladder Theatre Company which plans to Tour Autumn-Winter 10. SOUND – Jaydev Mistry
Jaydev has been a musician for over 20 years, producing bands and writing music for theatre and radio. In 2005 he was awarded an Amnesty award for his collaborative work on the ‘radio 4’ drama Bhopal. An international artist he is currently producing up and coming hip hop act, Ajah, who are currently making their name in New York, this will be his 4th contract with Red Ladder. SET DESIGN - Sara Perks
Sara has designed over sixty productions, for a wide variety of venues and genres. She has designed 13 productions at Mercury at Colchester (most recently Accidental Death of An Anarchist), and was Associate Designer for English Touring Theatre for 3 years. She has also designed with and for students at LAMDA, RADA, Creative Partnerships and Bristol Old Vic Theatre School (where she trained). Recent and notable credits include Helter Skelter/Land of The Dead (The Bush Theatre); Wedding Day At The Cromagnons (Soho Theatre), Treasure Island (Derby Playhouse); Rough For Theatre 1 & 2 ( Arts Theatre); Return To The Forbidden Planet (national tour); Singin’ In The Rain (Courtyard Theatre, Hereford) Dead Funny (Oldham and national tour) Romeo and Juliet (English Touring Theatre including Hong Kong Arts Festival); The Crypt Project (St Andrews Crypt London, Sincera Productions); The Elixir of Love (Grange Park Opera, co-design); The Ladykillers (The Northcott Exeter); and Union Street (with Rod Dixon), Plymouth Theatre Royal’s millennium project with a cast of 230. Future projects are set to includeThe Wizard of Oz for the Northampton Royal; and a new piece in a found space in London for Sincera Productions, based on the life of Alexanda Theremin. LIGHTING - Tim Skelly
Tim Skelly is a resident theatre designer and academic at the Workshop Theatre, University of Leeds. He has also worked as an academic at University College Bretton Hall in Wakefield and as a resident practitioner and teacher of lighting design at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. As a freelance lighting designer recent professional work includes NHS and Union Street for Plymouth Theatre Royal; Wars of the Roses and Runaway Diamonds for West Yorkshire Playhouse; Doors and Kaahini for Red Ladder Theatre Company; Three Sisters and Romeo and Juliet for Colchester Mercury Theatre; Chiaroscuro, Playfall, Plunge, Somewhere Inside and High Land for Scottish Dance Theatre; and technical management and lighting support for Cattlecall, Picadores, and Paseillo for Phoenix Dance Theatre.
