Example Workshops
- The Victorians and Child Labour
Hot-seating and role play exercises: Comparing child welfare in Victorian times to present day child labour in developing countries. Exploring corporation’s irresponsibility in relation to our own, addressing empathy skills and the difference between ‘wants’ and ‘needs’.
- Little Worlds and Refugees
Art, craft and digital media : Pupils make model worlds. When natural disasters hit and governments take charge, the personal, local and global consequences are realised. Pupils enter into a process of negotiation with their peers to trade and borrow resources. Exploring the rights of refugees and asylum seekers and following their journey.
- Global Justice and Theatre
Producing a play: Looking at topics such as environmental vandalism, corporate irresponsibility. Pupils research and develop a piece of theatre ready for a public performance. The audience are invited to participate in a post-show discussion about the issues raised in the piece.
- Global Justice and Racism
Open discussion and drama techniques: Raising awareness of hate crime and racism via a greater understanding of global issues such as exploitation of workers rights, climate change, distribution of power and conflict resolution. Pupils create a toolbox of skills that enable them to approach their own feelings and needs in a more empathetic way. Such skills are incompatible with racist views.
