The Bigger Picture

We look at the bigger picture;

·       1% of the global wealth is shared out between 50% of the world’s population

·       For every $1 sent in aid to developing countries $10 are sent back

as debt repayments

·       If you have food in your fridge, clothes on your back, a bed to sleep in and a roof over your head, you are richer than 75% of the world

·       If we don’t take action very soon we could unleash runaway global warming that will lead to social, economic and environmental devastation worldwide

·       It would cost $28 billion per year to provide basic education, water, health and nutrition to all developing countries, we spend $780 billion per year on the military worldwide

·       The ways in which we live, communicate, produce and consume are not working and the fates of everyone and everything in the world are inseparable

We provoke thought and debate so that communities feel empowered to face the issues in our world and take action. Social and personal issues faced in schools and communities such as racism, bullying, homophobia and self-harm are symptoms of a system in crisis, and we believe that in order to beat the symptoms we need to at least consider the sickness.

Instead of blaming and abusing each-other we can learn to respect each other and communicate in a more positive and open way. Instead of poisoning our own food and water and stealing from the future, we can learn how important the planet is to each and every one of us and what we can do as groups and as individuals to support and sustain it. Instead of seeing ourselves as removed from these global problems, we can recognise and understand how they relate directly to us, and how facing them can directly improve our schools and communities and how they are not beyond our control.
